Indian authorities are continuing to evacuate residents from coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh state and preparing shelters for those affected, in preparation for the arrival of Cyclone Morsano on the country’s eastern coast, amid warnings of panic buying of essential goods.
This comes as areas still recovering from the impact of Cyclone Arnab, which killed six people, destroyed dozens of homes, and damaged crops last week, continue their recovery efforts.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted that Morsano will make landfall on the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh between Nellore and Narasapuram, near Ongole, during the early hours of Tuesday, with sustained winds ranging from 100 to 110 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour.
