Egypt: We provided necessary defensive support to Gulf states... since the war began - Sarmad

Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Ati affirmed that Egypt has provided the necessary defensive support to Gulf states since the outbreak of the war on February 28, 2026, stressing that this support stems from Egypt’s duty and responsibility, and is strictly limited to the defensive aspect, without delving into details it described as sensitive.

Speaking during his participation on Saturday in a panel discussion at the 22nd edition of the Regional Security Summit “Manama Dialogue” in the Bahraini capital, Abdel Ati reiterated that Egypt has provided the necessary defensive support to Gulf states since the war began on February 28, 2026, emphasizing that this constitutes Cairo’s duty and responsibility. He clarified that this support is purely defensive in nature and that sensitive details regarding its operations cannot be disclosed.

The Foreign Minister renewed Egypt’s firm rejection and condemnation of attacks targeting Gulf states, affirming that the security of Gulf countries is an integral part of Egypt’s national security.

Regarding the diplomatic track with Iran, Abdel Ati explained that Egypt continues its communications with Tehran despite the absence of diplomatic relations between the two countries, aiming to de-escalate tensions and support diplomatic dialogue, as this represents Cairo’s primary priority in addressing current developments.

The Foreign Minister expressed Egypt’s deep concern over the possibility of renewed escalation in the war between the United States and Iran, warning that any new escalation could lead to further destruction and have serious repercussions for the region.
