Al-Jahra Hospital has received accreditation from the American College of Surgeons as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery, while Dr. Mohammed Al-Jasmi, head of the hospital’s surgery department, was granted the Distinguished Surgeon in Robotic Surgery designation for the period from October 2026 to 2029.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Health explained that the American College of Surgeons is a U.S.-based non-profit organization dedicated to patient safety and care quality, granting excellence accreditations to hospitals and surgeons worldwide.
Dr. Al-Jasmi stated in the statement that the robotic surgery program launched its first procedures on April 27, 2025, with a total of approximately 200 operations performed to date, covering general surgery, urology, and several specialized surgical fields.
He noted that the program enables robotic surgeries across multiple specialties within a system that integrates medical teams, equipment, and the clinical pathways necessary for patient care.
The ministry added that in October 2025, three remote robotic surgeries were performed on female patients diagnosed with uterine cancer, through a collaboration between the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital. This partnership allowed for the integration of specialized expertise between the two hospitals and the utilization of remote robotic surgery capabilities.
The ministry emphasized that this accreditation reflects the advancement of the robotic surgery program at Al-Jahra Hospital, as well as the opportunities for exchanging specialized expertise and expanding the use of advanced surgical technologies through cooperation among the ministry’s hospitals.
