The Ministry of Oil announced the launch of the fifth season of the “Oil Innovates” award, in collaboration with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, one of the centers under the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. This initiative aims to attract national innovative ideas and projects, harness creative talents to provide practical solutions to challenges facing the oil and gas sector, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and supporting technological development and sustainability.
Sheikha Tamadur Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Director of the Public Relations and Petroleum Media Department at the Ministry of Oil, stated in a press release issued by the Ministry that launching the fifth edition builds upon the successes achieved by the award during its previous four seasons. It reflects the Ministry’s commitment to consolidating a culture of innovation and expanding participation opportunities for inventors, innovators, and entrepreneurs among national talents, enabling the utilization of their ideas and capabilities to develop solutions that address the actual needs of the oil sector.
Sheikha Tamadur Al-Sabah emphasized that the fifth season adopts a more specialized approach by focusing on two main tracks: Energy and Artificial Intelligence, to serve the oil and gas sector. The goal is to direct innovations toward areas of operational and technical significance, and to open avenues for participants to submit feasible and developable ideas that contribute to improving performance and enhancing the use of modern technologies.
She explained that the first track, “Energy,” targets ideas and solutions that enhance energy production efficiency and its utilization in oil operations. These include improving energy efficiency in upstream and downstream processes, harnessing renewable energy sources, reducing emissions, minimizing gas flaring, as well as carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies, and improving water and energy management efficiency in operational processes.
She added that the second track, “Artificial Intelligence for the Oil and Gas Sector,” focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence and data analytics to develop operational processes, support decision-making, and enhance safety. Applications include predictive maintenance for equipment and facilities, reservoir performance optimization, production efficiency enhancement, the use of computer vision in health, safety, and environmental management, early detection of pipeline leaks, development of digital twins for facilities and assets, and improvement of supply chains and logistics services.
She clarified that these areas serve as illustrative examples and are not exclusive to accepted ideas, as the award allows participation with other innovative proposals, provided they align with and serve one of the two tracks and benefit the oil and gas sector.
She praised the collaboration with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, affirming that this partnership reflects the importance of integrating efforts between national institutions concerned with innovation and the oil sector, contributing to attracting promising idea holders and nurturing national talents.
In this context, she commended the efforts of Nada Al-Daihani, Director General of the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, and all those involved in the center, highlighting their continuous support for the award and their commitment to enhancing cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and providing the necessary conditions for the success of its fifth season, thereby contributing to achieving its objectives of encouraging innovation and developing innovative solutions that serve the oil and gas sector.
Sheikha Tamadher announced the launch of the dedicated website for the fifth season of the “Oil Innovates” Award, which will accept electronic registration and participation applications starting November 1, 2026. She explained that the website contains all details related to the award, including competition tracks, target categories, terms and conditions, evaluation criteria, prizes, application procedures, and answers to frequently asked questions, enabling potential participants to easily and clearly review requirements and complete registration.
Regarding participation conditions, Al-Sabah clarified that the award targets Kuwaiti citizens aged 21 and above, including engineers, specialists, graduates, postgraduate students, inventors, entrepreneurs, and innovators. Applications can be submitted individually or by teams comprising two to five members.
She noted that participation does not require a registered company or a completed project; instead, it accepts ideas, designs, prototypes, and developed projects, provided they fall under one of the award’s tracks and serve the oil and gas sector. A specialized judging committee will evaluate entries based on six announced criteria: relevance, innovation, feasibility, impact, scalability, and presentation quality.
Sheikha Tamadher stated that the top three ideas will be honored at the award’s closing ceremony scheduled for January 2027, under the patronage of Oil Minister Tariq Al-Roumi. She emphasized that the award represents an opportunity to highlight national innovations and showcase solutions that can contribute to the development of the oil and gas sector.
