US Central Command (CENTCOM) commander Brad Cooper said on Friday that dozens of commercial vessels, including cargo ships, crude oil tankers, and liquefied natural gas carriers, are transiting the Strait of Hormuz, affirming that US forces continue to secure the main shipping lanes in the strait.
In a statement, Cooper explained that he observed this vessel traffic during his flight over the Strait of Hormuz this week, noting the deployment of US military assets in the air and on the water, including a squadron of advanced unmanned boats conducting patrols as part of a multi-layered defensive system.
He confirmed that he did not observe any presence of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Strait of Hormuz during his tour.
