The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced on Friday that the exploratory well “Lorkan-6,” drilled in the “North Gulf of Suez” area of the Eastern Desert, has achieved a production rate of up to 1,500 barrels of crude oil and 8 million cubic feet of associated gas per day.

In a statement, the ministry noted that the well was drilled by Petrofac, a subsidiary of the Egyptian South Valley Holding Company for Petroleum, and yielded positive results during testing as part of efforts to intensify exploration activities and boost domestic oil and gas production.

The statement added that exploration activities in the company’s concession area are being carried out under investments by Dana Petroleum and the Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), supporting continued exploration and assessment of the region’s petroleum potential.

It clarified that the “Lorkan-6” well is scheduled to be connected to production following the completion of testing programs and necessary technical procedures. Meanwhile, data updates, geological mapping, and analysis of test results are ongoing to identify opportunities for drilling new wells and maximizing the area’s petroleum potential.

The statement emphasized that these efforts align with the ministry’s plans to expand drilling operations and capitalize on promising opportunities within concession areas, in collaboration with investment partners and in coordination with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and the Egyptian South Valley Holding Company for Petroleum, thereby contributing to supporting and increasing domestic production.
