A Kuwaiti medical project that relies on artificial intelligence for dental restoration has been ranked among the top seven Arab innovations, following the conclusion of the “Arab Innovators and Creators Conference” in the Omani capital, Muscat.

Dr. Kawsar Ali, Assistant Professor at the College of Dentistry, Kuwait University, and supervisor of the project, said on Wednesday that she participated with her project, which placed sixth in the Invention Structures and Innovations competition held during the conference. The project is an “application that uses artificial intelligence to determine a tooth’s suitability for restoration.”

She added that the application is built on research foundations and evidence from clinical data and X-rays of patients whose outcomes were monitored to train the algorithm. She noted that the experimental application achieved high accuracy, reaching 90 percent, after internal validation research was conducted.

Dr. Ali pointed out that the project had previously won local Kuwaiti awards specializing in digital solutions, including the “Nexus” startup competition and a competition organized by the College of Life Sciences for participants in the Fourth Kuwait International Conference on Life Sciences.

She expressed hope that her innovation would win international awards in the future, be implemented across all countries starting with Arab Gulf states, and contribute to improving diagnostic accuracy, accelerating treatments, and streamlining workflows in clinics, laboratories, and entities linked to the medical sector.

She added that she also participated in other conference activities hosted by the Arab Open University in Muscat, including discussion panels aimed at introducing the application and exploring challenges facing innovation.

She expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Research Authority for Science and Innovation in the sisterly Sultanate of Oman for hosting the scientific event and providing a platform for Arab innovators and creators to meet, exchange ideas, and share experiences.

The “Arab Innovators and Creators Conference” began on Monday, featuring discussions on mechanisms to support the transition from idea to product, strengthening the innovation and patent environment, and building sustainable Arab cooperation networks. A delegation from the Kuwait Foundation for Advanced Science and Kuwait University participated in the event.

The Omani Research Authority for Science and Innovation organized the three-day conference in collaboration with the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and the Arab Open University, in coordination with the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO). The event was attended by a distinguished group of Arab innovators, experts, specialists, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
