The National Cancer Awareness Campaign (Kaan) launched the “Your Day is Pink” event on Tuesday at the Day Al-Bahar Heritage Village, as part of the breast cancer awareness campaign under the slogan “Your Awareness is the Pink Seatbelt.”

Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kaan, said in a speech delivered on the occasion that breast cancer ranks among the top health and community priorities, urging women to adhere to regular screenings according to age groups and risk factors, and to promptly consult specialists if any unusual signs are noticed.

Al-Saleh emphasized that raising awareness about the disease and continuing efforts in prevention, regular screening, as well as providing psychological and social support to patients and survivors, is a shared societal responsibility that requires the combined efforts of individuals and institutions. He noted that Kaan has been committed, since its launch in 2006, to enhancing health knowledge and encouraging positive practices.

He clarified that the awareness message extends beyond breast cancer to include adopting a balanced daily lifestyle that helps reduce chronic diseases and tumors through proper nutrition, regular physical activity and walking, combating obesity, abstaining from smoking, and improving sleep quality.

He pointed out that choosing Day Al-Bahar to host the event reflects the importance of delivering health messages in community gathering places and integrating awareness with national identity and heritage. He affirmed that the success of such campaigns lies in achieving tangible changes in the daily behaviors of individuals and families.

For her part, Dr. Hessa Al-Shahin, a member of the campaign’s board of directors and head of the breast cancer awareness initiative, said in a similar speech that early detection and health awareness are the two fundamental pillars for identifying the disease in its early stages and improving recovery rates.

She called on women not to delay caring for their health due to family responsibilities or fear of test results, and not to be falsely reassured by the absence of symptoms. She stressed the necessity of adhering to regular screenings appropriate for age and risk factors, and consulting a specialist immediately upon noticing any abnormal signs.

She explained that the event’s slogan carries an empowering message for women to take the initiative in seeking reassurance and relying on trusted medical advice, noting that health care is not a luxury but a right and a responsibility toward oneself and one’s family.

She underscored the critical importance of psychological and social support for women diagnosed with cancer, highlighting that survivors possess energies and experiences that enrich society, and that they have the full right to empowerment and support to continue their journeys with confidence and hope.

Dr. Al-Shahin noted that awareness of the risks of breast cancer and its prevention methods should not be limited to October alone, but should continue as a permanent approach throughout the year for all age groups.
