The president of the Kuwait Association for Learning Differences (KALD), Amal Al-Sayer, confirmed on Tuesday that raising awareness about attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a crucial step toward understanding the needs of those affected and providing them with support in education and beyond, thereby enhancing their ability to achieve their aspirations and integrate into society.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of the association’s opening of an ADHD awareness booth at The Avenues Mall, Al-Sayer said the event marks the culmination of a month-long series of activities coinciding with the global October awareness month. She explained that the association conducts awareness programs throughout the year and intensifies its efforts during this month to reach the widest possible audience.
She noted that ADHD is not limited to difficulties with concentration, distractibility, or hyperactivity, but can also extend to deficits in executive functions, which include skills such as planning, managing daily life, and organizing and expressing emotions in a healthy manner.
The Kuwait Association for Learning Differences was established in 2007 and operates under a vision and plan that are subject to regular review and evaluation to improve performance and programs and to introduce new initiatives.
