Egypt and Iran discuss regional updates and proposed alternatives - Sarmad

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday to discuss recent developments in the region and the alternatives proposed to address them.

The spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nader Zaki, stated in a press release that the two ministers discussed the latest regional developments and the proposed alternatives during a telephone conversation.

The release added that Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of each party fulfilling its role in striving to achieve the desired goal of de-escalation in the region, particularly in light of alarming indicators that have recently increased.

He clarified that the call also covered recent meetings held in Tehran, during which Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s full support for all efforts aimed at containing tensions and preventing the risk of sliding into a larger crisis.

He noted that the ministers discussed the continuation of broad regional consultations between the Iranian side and the Quad Ministerial Mechanism (R4), which includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey. Recent initiatives by the mechanism have highlighted the need to unify regional efforts and for all stakeholders to assume their responsibilities in confronting current challenges and working toward de-escalation.
