Former Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim warned that the temporary ceasefire in the Iran war could turn into a ticking time bomb, coinciding with a quadrilateral meeting in Tehran involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan to discuss de-escalation.

Bin Jassim said efforts are underway to reach a solution that would put an end to the ongoing war between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other, expressing hope that these moves would lead to a clear and explicit agreement that goes beyond a temporary truce.

The former Qatari official stressed that interim ceasefires do not achieve the desired objective and may escalate tensions rather than contain them, warning that continuing the crisis without addressing its root causes could leave the region facing a new explosion at any moment.

Bin Jassim called for prioritizing reason, realism, and the region’s interests over short-term calculations, emphasizing that Middle Eastern countries are the most affected by prolonged tensions and the outbreak of wars, making them particularly concerned with working toward a settlement that ends the conflict and limits its repercussions.

His remarks coincided with a quadrilateral meeting held on Monday in the Iranian capital, Tehran, attended by Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistani Army Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Turkish Intelligence Agency Head Ibrahim Kalin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and other Iranian officials, to discuss regional developments and ways to enhance security and stability.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the delegation’s visit to Tehran is part of efforts to de-escalate tensions among the parties to the crisis, encourage dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and support the mediation efforts undertaken by Qatar and Pakistan. Riyadh expressed its hope that these moves would contribute to reaching an agreement that ends the crisis and prevents a return to military escalation.
