Kuwait’s Ambassador to Algeria, Nawaf Boushbeeb, affirmed on Monday the deep historical ties between the two countries and their fraternal peoples. This statement came in an interview Boushbeeb gave to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) following a meeting with the President of the Algerian People’s National Assembly, Aziz Naciri, in which he stressed the importance of the meeting as an opportunity to explore ways to enhance joint cooperation and exchange views on key regional and international developments.
The Kuwaiti ambassador expressed his “constant readiness to support cooperative relations with the People’s National Assembly, considered one of the most important constitutional bodies in Algeria,” while praising the level of political relations between the two fraternal countries and looking forward to achieving further fruitful cooperation in all fields that bring benefits and advantages to both countries and peoples.
For his part, the Algerian People’s National Assembly stated in a press release that the meeting provided an opportunity to review the state of Algerian-Kuwaiti relations and prospects for enhancing them. It also quoted Naciri praising the strong, close, and distinctive fraternal relations binding the two countries and their peoples, and emphasizing the need to elevate these ties to broader levels.
The President of the People’s National Assembly stressed that “these solid relations between the two countries derive their strength from shared historical bonds and from the firm political will of the leaders of both countries, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.”
In this context, Naciri renewed “Algeria’s full solidarity with the fraternal State of Kuwait amid the tense regional situation in the Gulf,” reaffirming “Algeria’s firm stance calling for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and for prioritizing dialogue and peaceful solutions to overcome crises.”
On the economic front, Naciri highlighted the presence of Kuwaiti investment in Algeria, particularly in the banking sector, and expressed his hope to expand and diversify these investments in light of available economic capacities and promising opportunities offered by the Algerian Investment Law, which provides privileges and facilitations for investors.
He pointed to “the importance of reactivating the Joint Committee, which would give new momentum to bilateral cooperation and strengthen economic and trade partnership between the two countries,” and called for considering “the possibility of establishing a business forum between the two countries and expanding cooperation into higher education, cultural, and tourism sectors, especially with the potential for opening a direct air route between the two countries.”
The statement quoted Ambassador Boushbeeb expressing his appreciation for Algeria’s firm positions and its solidarity with Kuwait in the face of Iranian aggression, while emphasizing the importance of continuing joint efforts to elevate relations to broader horizons. He also reiterated the call to hold the eleventh session of the Joint Committee, considering it a pivotal mechanism for assessing the trajectory of bilateral cooperation and exploring new partnership opportunities across various fields.
Furthermore, the two sides discussed, according to the statement, a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, foremost among them developments in the Middle East region and the necessity of unifying efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent the expansion of confrontations that threaten the security and stability of the region.
