(KUNA) — Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Al-Bedaiwi affirmed on Friday that GCC member states have solidified their international standing as a reliable and effective partner in mediation efforts, peacebuilding, and the promotion of global security and stability.
The GCC Secretariat stated in a press release that this remark was made by Al-Bedaiwi during his participation in the Ninth Istanbul Mediation Conference, held under the theme “Partnerships for Peace and New Horizons: Mediation in a Changing World.” The conference was hosted in Istanbul under the patronage of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and attended by a distinguished group of leaders, diplomats, representatives of international organizations, and experts.
Al-Bedaiwi praised Turkey’s outstanding efforts in organizing and hosting the conference, highlighting its commitment to strengthening the role of mediation and preventive diplomacy in conflict resolution. He described the conference as an important international platform for exchanging expertise and coordinating efforts aimed at consolidating dialogue and enhancing opportunities for peace and stability worldwide.
He further emphasized the robust Gulf-Turkish relations and Turkey’s supportive stance toward GCC member states on various files and issues, as well as both sides’ efforts to broaden these relations to new horizons.
Al-Bedaiwi noted that GCC member states have consolidated their presence and standing on the international stage in mediation and peacebuilding, acting as effective stakeholders and reliable partners through diplomatic initiatives and persistent good offices to bridge differences, contain crises, and open dialogue channels between conflicting parties.
He also pointed out that the successes achieved by GCC states in this field reflect the international trust and appreciation they enjoy, embodying their wise and balanced approach to addressing various regional and international issues and challenges.
He clarified that Gulf states’ mediation efforts are not confined to their regional neighborhood but extend to various regions worldwide, driven by their firm belief that security and stability are shared international responsibilities, and that dialogue, political solutions, and peaceful means represent the optimal way to end conflicts and spare populations from their repercussions.
In this regard, he reaffirmed the GCC states’ continued commitment to playing a constructive and influential role in supporting international peace initiatives and strengthening partnerships with the international community, thereby contributing to the foundations of global security and peace.
