British fighter jets participated for the first time in a drill alongside French Rafale fighters simulating a nuclear strike, according to a joint statement issued on Friday by the French and British defense ministries.
The two ministries stated that after taking off from the Saint-Dizier Air Base in northeastern France, French Rafale jets escorted British Royal Air Force Typhoon fighters in a simulated nuclear strike.
The statement clarified that the exercise, codenamed “Romeo,” took place over the Mediterranean Sea and did not involve nuclear weapons.
The drill was conducted as part of enhanced bilateral cooperation on nuclear deterrence, agreed upon during a summit between the leaders of the two countries in Northwood in July 2025.
