Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated on Wednesday that Lebanon is not a battleground for settling others’ wars.
Aoun said, “The years of war have taught us that Lebanon cannot become a theater for others’ conflicts or a mailbox for their disputes.”
He added, “The lessons we have learned from bitter experiences compel us to uphold our unity, safeguard our nation’s sovereignty, and confine the decision on war and peace to the state.”
Aoun emphasized that “Lebanese people are the ones who pay the price with their lives, security, and the stability of their country, while the nation reaps only division and destruction.”
He continued, “We must uphold our national unity, protect Lebanon’s sovereignty and the independence of its decision-making, and confine the decision on war and peace to the state and its legitimate institutions, thereby protecting all Lebanese citizens and preserving the future of coming generations.”
Aoun concluded, “It is our duty to transform the pains of the past into a shared resolve to build a strong and just state that embraces all its citizens, protects its land and people, and prevents the recurrence of tragedies for which the Lebanese have paid dearly.”
