King Charles III of the United Kingdom quoted a prophetic hadith about the people of Oman and recited verses of Omani poetry during his speech at a state dinner hosted at Windsor Castle in honor of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, marking the Sultan’s official visit to the United Kingdom.
King Charles emphasized that the Sultanate of Oman is one of Britain’s oldest allies, praising its role in mediation and dialogue and its policy of “constructive neutrality.”
He cited the authentic prophetic hadith regarding the people of Oman: “If the people of Oman were to come, they would neither curse you nor strike you.” He also recalled verses by the renowned Omani poet Abu Muslim Al-Bahlaani, speaking of his multiple visits to the Sultanate and his attempts to capture the essence of its stunning natural beauty, saying: “Those meadows never ceased to be lush, / Anointed by breezes with the fragrance of peace.”
He noted that the 14th-century traveler Ibn Battuta described Oman’s landscape as “extremely beautiful and magnificent.”
