(KUNA) – The Egyptian Parliament, chaired by Advisor Hisham Badawi, suspended its plenary session on Monday, which had been convened in response to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s request for a vote on supporting Egypt’s backing of Saudi Arabia’s security.
The Parliament decided to resume its plenary session on the upcoming Monday, October 26, to continue discussions regarding the President’s request for authorization to support Saudi Arabia.
Article 152 of the Egyptian Constitution stipulates that approval for deploying the armed forces on an external combat mission requires a two-thirds majority of Parliament members, during an urgent closed session convened at the President’s request and after consulting the National Defense Council.
The Egyptian National Defense Council had decided during its meeting on Sunday, chaired by el-Sisi and attended by the speakers of the Parliament and the Cabinet, as well as military commanders, to provide all necessary and feasible forms of support to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to defend its security and stability, safeguard its resources, and protect its territorial integrity and Islamic holy sites.
