He added that U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza remains mere ink on paper and that the principles outlined in the initiative have not been respected.
On the Iranian issue, Lavrov stated that there must be a return to the Islamabad memorandum, welcoming the efforts of regional mediators who are trying to prevent the region from sliding into further escalation.
He lastly called for finding solutions that address the root causes of crises in the Middle East region.
He stressed that the situation in the Middle East is on the brink of a comprehensive war, noting that the underlying causes of the conflict over the Strait of Hormuz must be addressed.
Lavrov said during a joint press conference with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani and Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Budaiwi: “The situation in the Middle East is on the verge of resuming a comprehensive war.”
Lavrov affirmed Russia’s and the Gulf states’ support for finding a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi militias in Yemen, stating: “We, alongside our partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council, support finding a political and diplomatic solution to this crisis, and we believe that all the foundations for such a solution are in place, including the 2023 roadmap developed with the active participation of Saudi Arabia.”
