US President Donald Trump announced his “full” support for Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming Israeli elections, as the Israeli prime minister, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, admitted his lack of confidence in winning a new term.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Sunday a message to Israelis heading to the polls on October 27, stating, “If Israel chooses anyone other than Netanyahu, it will be the wrong leader.”

The US president added that the United States has given a lot to Israel, and that “Netanyahu is the kind of partner we ask Israel to provide.” He continued, saying that if Netanyahu does not win the elections, “we will have to do the job against Iran ourselves, and I am not inclined to do that.”

Netanyahu quickly thanked Trump for his “huge support and joint work,” adding, “Together we will get the job done.”

Hours before Trump’s post, Netanyahu admitted his lack of confidence in winning the general elections. In comments to 104.5 FM, the radio station of the Ma’ariv newspaper, he expressed concern about potential results, while affirming that he does not intend to retire from politics if he loses the elections.

The Israeli prime minister described the electoral contest as fateful and existential, warning that the opposition coming to power could lead to concessions on the Iranian nuclear file and allow for the establishment of a Palestinian state, which he considered a “catastrophe.”

Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes in the Gaza Strip, warned against the rise to power of a government led by Gadi Eisenkot.

He said such a government would cancel what he considered “achievements of his government,” which has been in power since late 2022, calling for voting for his Likud party, which he described as capable of completing the mission to overthrow the Iranian regime in cooperation with US President Donald Trump.
