Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaybani affirmed that the Golan is a precious part of Syrian territory, stressing that any decision to annex it remains “ink on paper,” based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 497.
Al-Shaybani made these remarks during his speech at the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states, held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. He called on member states to support Syria’s unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, and to exert international pressure to expose and end Israeli practices, thereby contributing to enhanced security, stability, and peace in the region.
Al-Shaybani also emphasized the necessity of the withdrawal of Israeli forces to the lines preceding December 8, 2024, and the immediate return to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, while enabling the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) to fully carry out its mandate.
He noted that Syria restored its rightful position within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on March 7, 2025.
