Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on the latest developments in regional affairs, on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation foreign ministers’ meetings in Baghdad.
Abdelatty stressed the need to respect the security and stability of Gulf states, to halt and condemn attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, and emphasized the importance of de-escalation and ensuring freedom of international navigation.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Nader Zaki said the meeting addressed the latest regional developments, with Abdelatty reiterating the necessity of de-escalation and the swift restoration of calm and stability in the region.
The spokesperson added that the two ministers discussed ways to reach an agreement that would help contain the current crisis and prevent the conflict from widening, thereby supporting de-escalation efforts and limiting the repercussions of regional tensions.
Abdelatty underscored the need to guarantee freedom of international navigation and the regular flow of trade through maritime routes, contributing to mitigating the negative impacts of the crisis on the global economy, particularly amid the significant disruptions caused to energy and fertilizer supply chains and international trade.
