In response to a request by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to grant the necessary authorization, the Egyptian Parliament has decided to hold an emergency general session tomorrow, Sunday, to discuss developments in the regional situation and Egypt’s stance on safeguarding the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The session comes amid reaffirmation of Egypt’s support for the Kingdom and Cairo’s readiness to take the measures requested by Riyadh, in line with the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
El-Sisi seeks authorization
Earlier, on Saturday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called on the Parliament to convene an emergency session to authorize him to undertake any intervention requested by Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the graduation of military academy students, el-Sisi said Egypt would implement any measure to protect and defend Saudi Arabia, in accordance with the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
El-Sisi thanks Gulf states
The Egyptian president expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to his Gulf brothers, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for their support of Egypt following the events of 2013. He emphasized that their support, including the provision of gas and oil tankers, came without expectation of return, and that Egypt would have embarked on an uncertain path had it not been for their stance.
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi had previously affirmed that Egypt and Saudi Arabia constitute the heart of the Arab and Islamic nations, and that Egypt does not accept any infringement on the Kingdom’s security or borders.
He stressed that targeting Saudi Arabia affects Arab and Egyptian national security, reiterating Egypt’s rejection of any threat to the security of the Red Sea and international maritime passages. He added that Egypt’s primary concern is preserving the Kingdom’s security and stability and de-escalating tensions.
