The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Colombian Chargé d’Affaires in Cairo on Friday to express Egypt’s strong protest and its firm rejection of Colombia’s decision to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem.
The Middle East News Agency (MENAP) quoted a well-informed source as saying that during the summons, the Chargé d’Affaires was firmly informed that “this unilateral step is unacceptable and contradicts the city’s (Jerusalem’s) established legal and historical status, and constitutes a clear violation of relevant international legal resolutions.” He added that “the measure is null and void and carries no legal effect.”
The source further stated that “it was also emphasized that such irresponsible steps will have negative repercussions on international efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in the region and will exacerbate tensions.”
