(KUNA) — The General Secretariat of Waqf said on Tuesday that the Gulf Waqf Week is a strategic milestone for maximizing developmental impact, exchanging expertise, and enhancing community awareness of the importance of waqf among the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
In a press release, the Secretariat quoted Acting General Secretary Janan Al-Zamil as saying that this year’s Gulf Waqf Week events are launched under the theme “Waqf and National Development,” reflecting in depth the significant contributions of waqf to serving society and supporting various developmental sectors.
Al-Zamil added that the Gulf Waqf Week represents a Gulf occasion worthy of highlighting for its vital role in supporting the path of sustainable development and consolidating its status as one of the most prominent pillars of humanitarian and community work in GCC countries.
She emphasized the need to strengthen media coverage of this Gulf event and to publicize the lofty message and noble objectives of waqf, thereby contributing to spreading waqf culture and reaching all segments of society. She noted that this annual event provides a platform to showcase distinguished waqf initiatives and experiences, as well as to facilitate the exchange of expertise among member states.
Regarding national efforts, Al-Zamil pointed out that Kuwait is keen to support the joint Gulf waqf work and activate its mechanisms.
She noted that the 40th meeting of the Standing Committee of Specialists in Islamic Affairs and Waqf discussed a set of high-quality initiatives and proposals, including the General Secretariat of Waqf in Kuwait’s proposal to introduce a national indicator for waqf impact on society, and another proposal regarding the Mafaz competition project to raise awareness of waqf, charitable work, and volunteering.
She called for leveraging the Gulf Waqf Week to enhance waqf culture and highlight its role in community development and supporting joint Gulf initiatives, thereby consolidating waqf’s position as an effective strategic partner in achieving sustainable development and fulfilling the aspirations of Gulf peoples.
