North Korea launches missiles days after Seoul tests hypersonic missile - Sarmad

The South Korean military announced that North Korea launched several ballistic missiles toward the sea off its eastern coast on Monday, marking the fourth such launch in a month, following Seoul’s recent test of a hypersonic missile.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff in South Korea stated that the ballistic missiles, which appear to be of different types, were launched at approximately 09:20 local time (00:20 GMT) from an area near Pyongyang, adding that one of them traveled more than 900 kilometers.

Earlier, the Japanese Coast Guard said that North Korea had launched two unidentified projectiles, believed to be ballistic missiles, and added that both appeared to have landed in the sea.

The South Korean National Security Office held an emergency meeting, condemning the missile launches as violations of United Nations Security Council resolutions and calling for an immediate halt to such activities.

North Korea has been subject to UN sanctions since 2006, aimed at halting Pyongyang’s development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

The latest launches come amid rising tensions between the two Koreas in recent weeks, amid weapons tests conducted by both sides.
