(KUNA) — Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa said on Sunday that the region has witnessed increasingly serious developments over the past months, culminating in despicable Iranian attacks and interventions that targeted the security of homelands and peoples, without regard for the consequences or the fact that such acts constitute violations of international norms and laws, principles of good neighborliness, and shared destiny, and have disrupted collective efforts aimed at de-escalation and restoring regional security and peace.

The Bahraini News Agency reported that this statement was made by the King of Bahrain during his address at the opening of the fifth session of the sixth legislative term of Bahrain’s Shura Council and National Assembly.

King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa added that these events have demonstrated that every stance has its price, and that public opinion in countries affected by these hostile Iranian positions has become more aware of the realities of the situation and more determined to establish justice and consolidate security. He stressed that deterrence begins with a unified stance and clear vision, and is reinforced through hard work to achieve genuine peace that keeps the region away from the dangers of weapons of mass destruction, ensures freedom of navigation, and prevents any infringement on the security of waterways, ultimately bringing prosperity and benefit to the region and the nation.

He expressed satisfaction and pride, noting the highly effective role played by the Bahraini government during this period, under the guidance and follow-up of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, which has ensured the continued delivery of services with the expected efficiency and quality, and the progress toward restoring normalcy, particularly in economic and living conditions.

He affirmed confidence in the government plans devised to address the requirements of the current stage, achieving a balance between the imperatives of stability and the needs of development.

The King of Bahrain extended his gratitude and appreciation to the defense and security forces for their vigilance, effectiveness, and distinction in confronting challenges and threats, and for the exceptional efforts they have made to protect the homeland and defend its sovereignty. He reaffirmed full commitment to a policy of developing defense and security capabilities and updating their systems, thereby strengthening the country’s security and resilience with firm resolve and clear victory, God willing.

He said that, in recognition of these genuine stances, “we announce the designation of June 1 of each year as a national holiday, named ‘Day of the Pledge and Loyalty,’ coinciding with the date we signed the Document of Gratitude and Loyalty to the esteemed people of Bahrain, in response to the sincere sentiments expressed in the Pledge and Loyalty documents, which embodied the love of belonging to this noble land and the courage to defend our constants. May this day remain a witness to our national unity in its most splendid form.”

He praised the significant historical role of the United States and its steadfast commitment to supporting the Kingdom of Bahrain politically and defensively, a support that continues today under the leadership of President Donald Trump, extending a strategic partnership between the two countries. He acknowledged the U.S. role alongside Bahrain in preserving the security and stability of the region.

He clarified that the Kingdom of Bahrain draws its contemporary presence from a state confident in its institutions and keen to safeguard its civilizational heritage, which enables it to play its role in its neighborhood and in the world.

King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa added that Bahrain’s non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council reflects this conviction and underscores an active foreign policy approach committed to the principles of dialogue and understanding, based on sustainable peace diplomacy, and fulfilling “our country’s commitments to the international community.”

In this context, he mentioned a historic achievement realized by the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026, for which the Kingdom of Bahrain led the efforts on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the Kingdom.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan received the broadest joint sponsorship in the history of the Security Council, in support of peace, security, and stability in the region.
