Egypt Considers Exporting Electricity to Syria and Lebanon via Jordan - Sarmad

Sources in Egypt’s electricity sector revealed that Egypt is studying the export of 2,000 megawatts of electricity to Syria and Lebanon via Jordan.

This move is part of a strategic effort to strengthen Arab cooperation and consolidate Egypt’s role as a regional hub for energy exchange.

In exclusive comments to Masrawy, the source added that achieving this target depends on completing the necessary technical and economic studies, determining the requirements for increasing the electrical interconnection capacity between Egypt and Jordan, and coordinating with the concerned countries regarding electricity transmission routes and the readiness of their grids to accommodate the targeted capacities.

He clarified that the project aims to leverage Egypt’s geographical location and the capabilities of its national grid to support the electricity needs of Arab countries, noting that expanding regional interconnections represents one of the proposed pathways to enhance Egypt’s role as a central hub for energy exchange in the region.

He pointed out that implementing the project is contingent upon finalizing the required technical studies and procedures, and securing the necessary funding, before setting an implementation schedule and commencing actual operations. He emphasized that this initiative requires continuous coordination with the concerned countries regarding grid readiness and electricity transmission lines to ensure the success of the process.
