Trump to Tennessee Supporters: 'You Would Have Clapped If I Said the Dumbest Things' - Sarmad

U.S. President Donald Trump sparked a wave of laughter and applause during an election rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, on Saturday evening.
Trump joked to his supporters, “I can say the dumbest things and you’ll applaud.” After the audience laughed and clapped, he confirmed, “That’s true.”
Trump quickly seemed to realize how this remark might be interpreted on social media, adding with clarification: “But we don’t say the dumbest things; we say things based on common sense. We say logical things, which are mostly conservative in nature. But in reality, they’re not conservative—they’re just common sense.”
Trump listed examples of what he described as “common sense,” including the desire for “borders, low taxes, and a strong military,” adding, “We want all these different things… They’re simply common-sense issues.”
The rally was interrupted by a protester, whom Trump described as “crazy.” This followed another rally two days earlier in Texas, where the president’s remarks were interrupted about a dozen times, and at least one protester ended up in a physical confrontation with some of his supporters. No arrests were made in Texas, but local police removed the protesters from the venue.
In Tennessee, where Trump was officially supporting Republican candidates Marsha Blackburn, who is seeking re-election to the Senate, and Bill Hagerty, who is running for governor, the U.S. president wondered why he was in the state: “What am I doing in Tennessee?” pointing out that the candidates were performing well.
Trump said, “Sometimes it’s good to go to a place you don’t have to go to, but you’re there to say thank you to the great people who have elected you three separate times,” repeating his false claim of having won the 2020 election. He added, “For me, it’s easy, because there’s a lot of love in these halls.”
