Amr Moussa: Saudi security is a red line... Solidarity with statements of condemnation alone is not enough - Sarmad

The blatant assault on the sovereignty and security of the Kingdom is part of a direct threat to Arab security as a whole.

• It is time for the Arab world to transcend, postpone, or freeze its differences, no matter how deep, in order to confront the challenges and risks.

Former Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said on Sunday that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is currently facing a blatant assault on its sovereignty and security, which constitutes part of a direct threat to Arab security as a whole. He stated clearly: “Saudi Arabia’s security and sovereignty must be considered a red line, and any assault on it cannot be met solely with statements of condemnation and solidarity.”

He emphasized that it is high time for everyone in the Arab world to recognize that the challenges and risks they face require them to transcend their differences, however significant, or to postpone or freeze them, and to immediately adopt a decisive and practical Arab position. This is an opportunity, indeed a historical necessity, to rebuild solidarity based on shared interests and a correct understanding of the gravity of the situation for the entire Arab world.

He added: “We are at a moment of being or not being. Either we assume responsibility for defending our security and sovereignty and shape the future of the region, or we leave others to determine our fate and draw the maps of our future, which is absolutely unacceptable.”

He called for an immediate meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Riyadh, acting as an Arab security council, to affirm clear Arab solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the entire Gulf region, and to adopt a clear and effective collective position to halt the chaos engulfing the region. He stressed that this meeting should pave the way for an urgent Arab summit to reach a comprehensive strategic Arab position on the challenges facing various fronts: from the situation in the Gulf, to the Palestinian issue and the attempts to liquidate it, through crises in the Mashreq and Maghreb Arab countries, the Red Sea, and the Horn of Africa.

He emphasized that what is required today is not to manage each crisis individually, nor to settle for reactive responses, but to formulate an Arab position that restores the initiative to Arabs and affirms their ability to determine the future of the region.

He concluded his statement by describing the situation as a comprehensive assault, and therefore a moment for decision, not for waiting. Let the assault on Riyadh, and indeed on the entire Gulf, serve as a starting point for a serious Arab movement that restores the dignity of Arabs and unleashes their capabilities.
