Malaysian PM: Malaysian Public Recognizes Egypt's Status, Al-Azhar, and Umm Kulthum - Sarmad

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim affirmed that the Malaysian public is well aware of Egypt’s historical and cultural stature, praising Egypt’s pioneering humanitarian role in supporting the Gaza Strip. The Malaysian prime minister emphasized that Egypt–Malaysia relations are not limited to political and diplomatic dimensions, but extend to deep historical, cultural, and educational ties.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Saturday during his visit to Malaysia, Ibrahim said, “Everyone on the street knows who Egypt is and its stature, from the pharaohs to the opera, Umm Kulthum, and Al-Azhar.”
He expressed his appreciation for President el-Sisi, describing him as a dear friend who has shown considerable support and understanding, and reaffirming his anticipation for further cooperation between the two countries in the coming period.
The Malaysian prime minister commended Egypt’s role, under President el-Sisi, in supporting the Palestinian people, noting that Cairo has provided substantial aid to Palestinians and continues its humanitarian efforts, alongside offering medical and psychological support to the wounded arriving from the Gaza Strip.
Anwar Ibrahim pointed out that Malaysia stands with the Palestinian people in Gaza, stressing his pride in Egypt’s supportive stance toward Palestinians and the humanitarian and relief assistance provided by Cairo. He added, “I am extremely proud of Egypt’s position in providing aid,” clarifying that the volume of aid provided by Malaysia does not compare to what Egypt has offered to the Palestinian people facing dire humanitarian conditions.
