Trump: Execution is an appropriate means to end Nidal Hasan's life - Sarmad

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would decide whether to approve the live broadcast of the execution of Nidal Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 of his colleagues at a military base in Texas in 2009.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, in response to a question about whether he wanted the execution to be broadcast live and whether he feared that such a move by the U.S. government could produce propaganda videos for extremists, Trump said, “I will make a decision on that.”

The U.S. president described Hasan as “completely deranged” and added that he would face a firing squad.

Trump affirmed that he did not care about the method by which Hasan’s execution was carried out, as long as the sentence was carried out, noting that in his view, the death penalty was “an appropriate way to end the matter.”

Trump was asked whether he intended to watch the execution in person, but he did not answer.

When asked whether he had personally approved a live broadcast of the execution, Trump said he had approved it so far, but the wording of the question was not entirely clear, leaving it uncertain whether he meant approval of the live broadcast or of the execution itself.

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that Hasan’s execution would be broadcast live.

CBS News reported that the execution is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood in Texas, marking the first execution of a U.S. soldier in 65 years and the first firing squad execution in the United States since World War II.

For his part, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights warned that the live broadcast of Hasan’s firing squad execution amounted to a public execution and constituted a violation of the absolute prohibition of torture.
