Senate Democrats Call Trump's Deal for Russian Diesel 'Betrayal' - Sarmad

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the top Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, and prominent Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren of the Banking Committee said that President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to purchase Russian diesel constitutes a betrayal of Ukraine, European allies, and U.S. national security.

The senators wrote: “Enough. We can no longer tolerate this. The president must end his war with Iran instead of funding the Russian war machine.”

Trump’s announcement that the United States would allow global purchases of Russian diesel came as a surprise to lawmakers.

The announcement followed overwhelming congressional approval of legislation, signed into law by Trump last month, that imposes strict sanctions on countries purchasing Russian energy, which funds the war against Ukraine.
