American researchers reported that individuals experiencing deterioration in voice quality—changes in pitch, clarity, and intensity—who do not have hearing loss, face a 58 percent higher risk of developing cognitive impairment and dementia.

They stated, “With the growing elderly population and limited treatments available for dementia, early identification of dementia indicators is crucial.”

They added, “No previous large-scale study has examined whether diagnosed voice disorders are independently associated with new-onset cognitive decline. Our study is the first of its kind to investigate this potential association.”
