Rusul Bedford – Al-Bakr and her associates obtained an appellate court ruling in favor of their client, Reem Real Estate Company (W.L.L.), in the lawsuit filed against its former board members, stemming from a 2017 transaction to purchase a plot of land in the United Kingdom. The company had paid for the land from its own funds, only to discover that the seller did not own the property.

The Court of Appeal upheld the Public Prosecution’s appeal, sentencing each defendant to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labor, imposing fines of 30 million Kuwaiti dinars on the defendants, ordering them to repay KD 4,537,750 to the company, dismissing the first and second defendants from their positions, and confiscating the forged documents.

The legal team was led by lawyer Abdullah Al-Bakr and advisor A. Mohammad Zarad, who handled the case from the initial filing of the complaint through the investigations and expert assessments, up to the issuance of the appellate judgment.

The ruling affirms that board members of companies in which public entities hold shares are fully subject to criminal liability, and that public funds are protected regardless of the form of the entity managing them.
