After His Statement 'Let Them Destroy Los Angeles'.. California Governor Calls Trump Unstable - Sarmad

The White House rushed on Tuesday to respond to a wave of widespread criticism sparked by remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he said that the destruction of the Iranian cities of Los Angeles and San Diego “would be a very small price to pay to achieve victory,” as part of his call for Americans to accept the costs of war.

In response to these comments, the White House stated that Trump was referring to the threat that U.S. cities would face if Iran succeeded in acquiring a nuclear weapon, and described the controversy surrounding his remarks as “media hysteria not grounded in reality.”

In a post on the platform X, White House Communications Director Stephen Chung claimed that Trump was “clear” in indicating that U.S. cities would have been threatened had Iran’s nuclear program not been stopped.

During a campaign rally in Nebraska, Trump spoke about rising oil prices in the context of a potential war with Iran, saying that this increase represented a “small price” to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to safeguard the security of the United States and the world.

Trump said, “It’s a little high, but it’s a small price to pay to keep the world safe and to keep our country safe.” He added, “They can destroy a city. Let them take Los Angeles, let them take San Diego. That’s a very small price, and it will all be over very soon.”

Trump’s remarks sparked controversy and drew criticism from Democrats, who accused him of implicitly suggesting the possibility of targeting the two California cities. California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his rejection and dismay.

Newsom wrote on X, “Trump is now saying that our foreign enemies should destroy Los Angeles and San Diego.” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries also stated that “nuclear genocide of an American city is no laughing matter.”

Newsom described Trump as “unhinged and dangerous,” and shared a video of Trump’s remarks in Nebraska, referencing a previous speech by the president in which he justified deploying U.S. military forces in Los Angeles and other cities to combat crime and enforce immigration laws.
