Jordan's King and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince witness launch of Aqaba train project - Sarmad

King Abdullah II bin Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, witnessed on Monday the groundbreaking ceremony for the Aqaba–Shidiyya–Ma’an railway project in the city of Aqaba, Jordan. The project is being developed by the Jordanian-Emirati Railway Company, with a joint Emirati-Jordanian investment valued at approximately $2.5 billion, and involves the development of a 403-kilometer railway network.
This step embodies the vision and directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and King Abdullah II bin Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, aimed at consolidating a sustainable strategic partnership between the two countries based on joint efforts and enhancing frameworks for cooperation and coordination, thereby serving the interests of the two fraternal peoples.
This strategic project, the largest of its kind in the Jordanian railway sector, aims to link the city of Aqaba with major mining and production sites and the Ma’an logistics zone, providing an integrated system for transporting bulk cargo and containers between ports, production centers, and domestic logistics facilities. This will help alleviate pressure on the road network and support the transition toward a more efficient and sustainable transport system.
