Major Japanese outrage after US soldier arrested for killing and robbing woman - Sarmad

Japanese police arrested a U.S. Marine on suspicion of killing and robbing a local woman on Okinawa island, officials said.
The latest criminal incident has placed the heavy U.S. military presence on the southern island under the glare of public anger.
Okinawa Prefectural Police said they arrested a man in his 20s serving at Futenma Air Base on Sunday, suspecting him of killing a 39-year-old local woman inside a hotel in Naha, the prefectural capital, and stealing her wallet and backpack in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Kyodo News reported that the woman’s body was found inside her hotel room, showing signs of strangulation.
Surveillance footage showed a man believed to be the suspect entering the hotel with the victim and leaving alone.
The agency added that a police officer apprehended the suspect after spotting him walking alone in a Naha entertainment district street on Saturday evening.
