Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Chairman, Rashad al-Alimi, announced on Sunday the commencement of military operations to reclaim the remaining territories of the country and to extend the authority of the state and its institutions across the entire national territory, emphasizing the transition from a phase of preparation and readiness to a phase of liberation after all opportunities for de-escalation had been exhausted.

In a statement to the Yemeni people, al-Alimi said, “Guided by our constitutional responsibility to protect the sovereignty of the Republic and its citizens, and based on the decisions of the National Defense Council, and after completing the necessary procedures and measures, I hereby announce the start of military operations to reclaim the remaining territories of the Republic and to extend the authority of the state and its institutions across the entire national territory.”

He added that he had issued directives to the armed forces, security agencies, and all military formations to begin executing their assigned missions in accordance with approved plans, in order to liberate the country from the grip of the Houthi militia, which he described as terrorist.

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed that the decision to launch the operations came after the state had granted peace all the time and opportunities it deserved, while the militias had responded to de-escalation efforts with further mobilization and escalation, expanding their attacks and threats against civilians, national facilities, neighboring countries, and international shipping lanes.

He stated that the state’s position today is to assume its national responsibility in confronting the Houthi militias, following the exhaustion of all de-escalation opportunities, and in light of the continued existence of weapons outside state control, as well as the threats posed to the security of citizens, the sovereignty of the country and the region, and international navigation routes.

Al-Alimi emphasized that the battle is not a war against the citizens of Sana’a, Saada, Hodeidah, Amran, Dhamar, Ibb, or any other governorate, nor is it a war against a particular sect or tribe.

He continued, “It is a war waged by the state on behalf of its citizens and to restore its institutions, to correct past mistakes, and to avoid suppressing the will of its people or their political future by force of arms.”

Addressing citizens in areas under Houthi control, al-Alimi said, “You are not the target of these operations; rather, your security, rights, and dignity are among the primary reasons for them.”

He called on Yemenis in these areas to stay away from military sites, militia gatherings, and supply routes, and to protect their children from being drawn into the fighting.
