The Ministry of Health has opened a Travel Health Clinic at the Salwa Specialty Center in the Hawalli Health Region, accompanied by an awareness exhibition on traveler health featuring participation from various health departments and specialties.
In a press release on Sunday, the Ministry stated that the exhibition covered the stages of a healthy journey, from pre-travel preparation to preventive practices during the trip, and managing health symptoms and risks that may arise after returning. It also addressed topics such as vaccinations, food safety, nursing, pharmacy, and infection prevention.
According to the statement, Dr. Mariam Mansouri, Head of the Public Health Services Department in the Hawalli Health Region, explained that the opening of the clinic is part of efforts to develop and expand preventive services for citizens and residents, and to enhance health readiness for travel.
Mansouri added that travel medicine is not limited to vaccinations; it includes an individual assessment of health risks based on the travel destination, duration, nature of the trip, and the traveler’s health status, in order to determine appropriate vaccinations, guidance, and preventive measures.
She noted that the clinic provides pre-travel health assessments and consultations, reviews required and recommended vaccinations according to the destination, and raises awareness about preventing travel-related diseases, including vector-borne diseases, food- and waterborne illnesses, and respiratory diseases.
Emphasizing the growing importance of travel medicine services amid increasing travel volumes and diverse destinations, she pointed out that each traveler and each journey has its own distinct health assessment, and that health preparation for a trip should begin well in advance of departure.
The Ministry of Health provides travel health services through nine clinics distributed across various governorates, facilitating access to the necessary preventive and health services for travelers.
