4 Members of One Family Killed in Armed Attack in Rural Damascus - Sarmad

Sources close to the incident reported that four members of a single family were killed and seven others were injured, with their injuries described as serious, following an armed attack carried out by unidentified perpetrators in the Rif Dimashq Governorate.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that the incident occurred in the town of Ras al-Ma’ara, part of the Qalamoun region, where gunmen targeted a civilian vehicle carrying the victims as they were returning from a wedding ceremony in the area.

According to a statement by the Observatory, “unidentified individuals targeted a car carrying members of one family with direct gunfire as they were returning from a wedding in Ras al-Ma’ara, Qalamoun region, resulting in the deaths of four people: a citizen, his wife, his brother’s wife, and a child, as well as serious injuries to three children.”

The Observatory noted that the motives behind the targeting remain unclear, and no precise information has emerged regarding the identities of the attackers. It added that the area has seen a heavy security presence following the incident, accompanied by the closure of several roads and the establishment of checkpoints around the crime scene, amid security measures aimed at apprehending those responsible.

According to the rights group, the incident once again highlights the dangers threatening civilians’ lives amid the continued proliferation of weapons and a lack of accountability, particularly given the deaths of family members, including a child, and the serious injuries sustained by other children.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights called for a serious and transparent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the crime, identify those responsible, and hold them accountable, while also calling for measures to curb the proliferation and possession of weapons to ensure civilian protection and prevent the recurrence of such violations.

With the Qalamoun attack, the number of recorded criminal offenses and homicides in Syrian governorates since the beginning of 2026 has risen to 402 crimes, resulting in 442 victims: 345 men, 37 children, and 60 women.
