The King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Affairs, in line with its humanitarian commitments to the Syrian people, has provided $4.03 million to support returnees, internally displaced persons, and refugees.
This support is implemented under a partnership agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), focusing primarily on securing housing and providing urgent winter assistance.
According to project details, the funding will enable the rehabilitation of more than 980 damaged homes in the governorates of Aleppo, Rural Damascus, and Deir ez-Zor, benefiting over 4,900 individuals.
Concurrently, the project will provide winter assistance to more than 53,800 people in the governorates of Aleppo, Idlib, Rural Damascus, Homs, and Deir ez-Zor, enabling the most vulnerable families to cope with the harsh winter and strengthen their resilience.
In this context, UNHCR emphasized that this humanitarian intervention aims to address urgent protection needs, improve living conditions, and support safe, dignified, and sustainable return and reintegration processes.
It is worth noting that this Syria-specific agreement is part of a package of two agreements signed by the King Salman Center with the UN agency to support Syria and Ukraine, with a total value of $6.13 million.
These aid efforts are particularly significant given the recent influx of voluntary returnees to Syria. UNHCR estimates indicate that approximately 1.8 million Syrian refugees have returned from abroad between December 2024 and early September, in addition to more than 2 million internally displaced persons returning to their original towns and villages, thereby increasing humanitarian and relief needs in the targeted areas.
