The Ministry of Interior announced that the Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations, uncovered a case involving the exploitation of a charitable project to collect in-kind donations, resell them, and divert the proceeds for personal gain. Five suspects were implicated in the case: three Syrian nationals and two Egyptian nationals, as part of ongoing security efforts to combat crime.
The ministry added that investigations conducted by the Al-Jahra Governorate Criminal Investigations Department, represented by the Sulaybiya Criminal Investigations Office, revealed that a furniture transportation company rented a website and a phone number belonging to a charitable project through one of its employees, without the knowledge of the association’s members. These resources were used to receive donations of clothing, electronic devices, furniture, and food items, after misleading donors into believing the contributions were intended to support the project and achieve its objectives.
According to the ministry’s statement, the suspects collected the donations through a number of agents, then appropriated them and sold them in local markets or exported them abroad to profit from their monetary value, rather than directing them to the purposes for which they were collected.
It was found that this activity was repeatedly carried out under the umbrella of the charitable project, generating monthly profits estimated at approximately 60,000 Kuwaiti dinars from the disposal of these donations.
Additionally, the company’s warehouse in the Umghara area was located, and appropriate measures were taken regarding the seized items, while procedures related to the case were completed.
