"African Union" calls on Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Egypt to exercise restraint - Sarmad

The African Union Commission called on Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Egypt to exercise the utmost restraint and refrain from any actions or statements that could heighten tensions and undermine regional peace and stability.

In a statement, the Commission urged the three countries to resolve their differences through established diplomatic channels and peaceful dialogue.

On Thursday, Ethiopia ordered the closure of its embassy in Eritrea and declared ten Eritrean diplomats persona non grata, prompting Asmara to sever all diplomatic relations with its neighbor.

Ethiopia also declared an Egyptian diplomat persona non grata, ordering him to leave the country within 48 hours. Cairo responded in kind by declaring the counselor at the Ethiopian embassy in Egypt persona non grata, giving him 48 hours to depart the country.
