• Dr. Khaled Al-Zamil: Industrial investments in the telecommunications sector offer important opportunities for knowledge transfer and enhancing industrial capabilities in Kuwait
(KUNA) – Dr. Khaled Al-Zamil, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Communications and Information Technology (STRA), affirmed that industrial investments linked to the telecommunications sector provide opportunities for knowledge transfer and the development of specialized skills in manufacturing, inspection, and quality control, thereby strengthening Kuwait’s industrial capabilities and supporting the needs of digital transformation.
Dr. Al-Zamil told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday, following his visit to the Taihan Kuwait fiber optic cables factory, that local manufacturing of fiber optic cables is crucial, as they are a fundamental component of telecommunications and data transmission networks. Fixed-line internet services, as well as the interconnection of telecommunications stations and data centers, rely on these cables.
He explained that local production of these cables supports digital infrastructure expansion projects and maintenance activities, while also contributing to diversifying supply sources and reducing reliance on importing finished products.
He noted that developing industrial capabilities in this field is gaining increasing importance due to rising demand for high-speed connectivity, cloud services, and applications that require the transfer of large volumes of data. He emphasized the necessity of adhering to approved technical specifications to ensure the efficiency of fiber optic cables.
The visit included an overview of the factory’s operations, production capacities, and quality control procedures. The delegation was received by Attallah Al-Mutairi, Chairman of the Board of Taihan Kuwait Fiber Optic Cables Company, and Jang Hee-lee, the company’s Chief Executive Officer.
Accompanied by a delegation from the Authority, Dr. Al-Zamil reviewed the factory’s activities in producing fiber optic cables, including those used for connecting fibers to homes and distribution networks, as well as the manufacturing stages and quality testing processes.
