Iraq Extends Deadline for Militias' Weapons Inventory to June 30, 2027 - Sarmad

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has set June 30, 2027, as the deadline for the Iraqi state to assume control over the weapons held by groups close to Iran, in a statement issued the day after the conclusion of the US-led international coalition’s mission to combat armed groups.

Al-Zaidi said, “October 1, 2026, marks the serious start of addressing the issue of weapons outside state control, in accordance with constitutional obligations, based on a clear roadmap and agreed timelines that do not exceed June 30, 2027. This is in line with the constitutional principle that the decision on war and peace rests with constitutional authorities, and to prevent any military action otherwise.”

He added that the government, in accordance with the constitution, will fully disarm all non-Iraqi armed groups present on Iraqi territory, thereby safeguarding the country’s security, stability, and border integrity.
