Iranian Government Delays Repayment of 4 Billion Euros to 'Private Sector' - Sarmad

The Iranian government has delayed settling a 4 billion euro debt owed to the private sector, despite directives from President Masoud Pezeshkian to disburse the funds, threatening food security by paralyzing the import of essential goods.
Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported that nine months have passed since the private sector demanded its foreign currency dues, yet the government has taken no effective steps to settle debts amounting to 4.07 billion euros.
Despite Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s emphasis three months ago on the urgency of immediate payment, no minister has implemented the directive.
This comes at a time when the private sector bears the burden of importing essential and food commodities, making the freezing of its funds a direct threat to food security by reducing liquidity and disrupting supply chains.
Private sector officials have warned of the consequences of continued negligence, calling on the government to take urgent measures, while the silence of the relevant ministers has raised questions about the failure to execute an order from the country’s highest executive authority.
