Syria: Three Power Generation Plants Taken Out of Service Following Gas Pipeline Explosion - Sarmad

A gas pipeline exploded in the eastern countryside of Damascus on Wednesday evening, sparking a fire and disrupting three power generation stations.

A source at the Syrian Ministry of Energy told Al Jazeera that the pipeline, which supplies the Tishreen Thermal Power Station in the Harran al-Awamid area east of Damascus, had ruptured, and that maintenance crews at the station were working to shut off the line to control the blaze.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Electricity Company announced that the Deir Ali, Al-Nasiriya, and Tishreen power stations had been disrupted following the gas pipeline explosion.

For his part, the Syrian Civil Defense stated that its teams had arrived at the Tishreen station in an effort to contain the fire.
