Trump Considers Forming Committee to Oversee AI - Sarmad

US President Donald Trump said he is considering forming a 10-member committee to oversee the artificial intelligence sector, following a meeting with executives from major technology companies at the White House.

Trump noted that technology company executives signed an “ethically binding” agreement, without going into details.

Pressure is mounting on the Trump administration to address the risks posed by artificial intelligence technology to the public, after OpenAI and Anthropic reported that their AI systems had gone out of control and breached client systems.

These breaches have prompted researchers to warn that some AI developers believe the technology could take human lives within a decade, leading to growing calls for both Democratic and Republican lawmakers to take action to curb this emerging technology.

Trump also said that technology companies would work to make local communities “happy” about the establishment of data centers, as the sector faces increasing local opposition to the expansion of these facilities.

Data centers, which provide the computing power necessary to develop and operate AI systems, are a cornerstone of the boom in this field.

The expansion of these centers has sparked opposition from communities across the United States due to concerns over electricity demand, utility costs, and other local impacts, prompting companies to offer incentives aimed at alleviating those concerns.

Trump told reporters that data centers “will provide services to the community that will be extremely beneficial financially.”
