Iraqi Hezbollah Threatens to Oust Government if Iran Sanctions Continue - Sarmad

Islamic Resistance in Iraq has threatened to take measures against the Iraqi government led by Prime Minister Ali al-Idi if it continues what it described as the aerial blockade imposed on Iran after October 1 next year.

Abu Majid al-Asaf, the security official for the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades, stated in a post on the “X” platform that the government, which “does not work for the benefit of the people,” would face attempts to overthrow it, warning the prime minister and those he claimed were behind him to cease this approach.

Al-Asaf added that the continuation of the “aerial blockade on Iran” after October 1 could, in his view, prompt Iraqis to take a stance, including the possibility of “closing the borders of countries participating in the blockade of the Iranian people.”

He also said that Islamic Resistance in Iraq would monitor Iraqi airspace to ensure it is not used for what he described as “American violations,” warning that any aircraft deemed “hostile” would first be issued a warning before measures are taken against it.

The statement, according to the published text, did not include specific details regarding the nature of the measures the group might take against the Iraqi government or the aircraft it accuses of violating Iraqi airspace.

The Iraqi government had previously affirmed on several occasions that Iraq seeks to keep its territory and airspace from being drawn into regional conflict, as Baghdad continues its communications with regional and international parties to contain the repercussions of the war.
