Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, Abeer Al-Rumah, emphasized the importance of enhancing public awareness to reduce food loss and waste, noting that preserving food is a shared responsibility that contributes to rationalizing consumption, supporting sustainability, and conserving resources for future generations.
This statement was made in a press release during an event organized by the Authority at the Avenues Mall, in observance of the International Day for the Reduction of Food Loss and Waste, which falls on September 29 each year.
Al-Rumah clarified that reducing food waste begins with simple daily practices, such as purchasing appropriate quantities for consumption, storing food properly, and utilizing leftovers instead of discarding them. She stressed that adopting these behaviors contributes to the optimal use of food and resources.
She added that food reaches consumers through multiple stages, requiring various efforts and resources, making its preservation a responsibility that reflects appreciation for this blessing. She called on members of society to make conscious consumption a way of life and to contribute to spreading a culture of reducing food waste.
